Fernando Torres turns 33-years-old today as the Spaniard begins to wind down his career.

A world-class striker in his prime, the Atletico Madrid hero has been through leaner spells since but still pops up with those all-important goals at the most perfect of times.

Raw pace, dead-eye finishing, great in the air and a physical presence, Torres had it all and, naturally, scored a hat-full for likes of Atleti and Liverpool in particular.

He’s got quite the show-reel when it comes to his best goals, then, but here at Rush Football we’ve decided to try and work out his best 5. Here’s what we came up with…

vs Chelsea

This goal just summed Torres’ playing style up. Pace and power to rinse Tal Ben Haim and then when he got near the goal an ice-cool finish. This was on his Liverpool debut and things only got better from there.

vs Middlesbrough

He wasn’t just lethal in the box, though, he could leather it from range too. Middlesbrough fail to close him down and next minute the net’s coming out of the ground. An absolute rocket!

vs Inter Milan

Liverpool were protecting a 2-0 lead in this Champions League 2nd leg match with Inter Milan. The Nerazzurri were doing their best to get back in it at the San Siro, too, but couldn’t find a way through as much as they tried. Then, El Nino did this, and sealed the tie.

vs Celta Vigo

His 2nd spell at Atletico has not been as successful as his first, of course, but he has shown flashes of what he can still do. This overhead kick against Celta Vigo this season is certainly a demonstration of that.

vs Blackburn

It’s the 2008/09 season and Torres is in his pomp as Liverpool chase the league title. He gets the ball early on in this game against Blackburn, brings it under and then unleashes a superb strike. He scored some incredible goals but this has to be the best one!
