Rush Football’s Premier League Prediction

The 2017/18 Premier League season is well underway. We have already seen a number of shocks and thrashings at both ends of the table. But who will come out on top in May? We, Rush Football, give our prediction…

Manchester City

Pep Guardiola has got City off to a flyer. The Citizens have dropped points in just one game so far this season and are in scintillating form having scored 13 more goals than any other team. They’re also sound at the back conceding just seven goals, with only arch rivals Manchester United conceding less. In September, City overcame arguably the most difficult game of the season. A Kevin de Bruyne masterclass gave them all three points against defending champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, in what can only be described as a very impressive all-round team performance. There isn’t a team in the league who want to be face them at present, as they currently lead the Premier League by eight points after twelve games.

Manchester United

United have started the campaign strongly, they currently sit in 2nd position having gone toe-to-toe with City until recently. The Red Devils have lost two of their last four games, losing 2-1 away to newly promoted Huddersfield Town and then 1-0 away at Chelsea in a disappointing game. Whilst they may have lost ground on leaders City, José Mourinho and his coaching team will hope to replicate last season’s 25-match unbeaten run as they embark on their pursuit of the title. The return of Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimović to the side will aid their cause with both Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matić in impressive form. It will be the fitness and availability of key players which will determine whether they can catch rivals City or not.

Chelsea

Chelsea’s form this season has been odd to say the least. Whilst they have won crucial games against Tottenham and Manchester United, they have also lost to at home to Burnley and, winless at the time, Crystal Palace. It is defeats such as these that will ultimately define their season. They have the ability to beat title rivals but if they fail to overcome banana skin ties they can say goodbye to any title hopes sooner rather than later.

Tottenham

Spurs were dealt a big blow last weekend after losing to title chasing and fierce rivals Arsenal. Not only that, ever present Toby Alderweireld has been ruled out until the New Year with a hamstring injury. The Belgian has been impressive form in a formidable Tottenham back four this season. At present, Tottenham are eleven points behind City who they still have to play twice. Mauricio Pochettino will need to get Tottenham firing on all cylinders if they want any chance of winning the Premier League this season.

Liverpool

For Liverpool to win the Premier League this season, Jürgen Klopp will need to address their defensive frailties as soon as possible. In comparison to the top six, Liverpool have conceded far too many goals. They have conceded 17 goals in total, ten more than leaders City and seven more than any other side occupying the top four positions. While their recent form has been much improved, seeing them win their last three games scoring ten and conceding just once, it remains to be seen whether they can maintain this impressive form.

Arsenal

The Gunners currently occupy 6th place in the league, twelve points behind Manchester City. For Arsenal to win the Premier League this season it would be nothing short of a miracle. When facing title chasing opposition, Arsenal have only claimed four points out of a possible twelve on offer. Their inability to win crucial games will be their undoing this season.

Our prediction? Manchester City

Ruthless in attack and strong at the back. We can’t see anyone other than City winning the Premier League this season. They have strength in depth, world class talent galore and are in top form showing no signs of stopping.
