Liverpool, Man Utd, Man City stars feature: 5 standout players in the Premier League so far

There have been a number of standout performers in the Premier League this season, but which players have really been a cut above the rest? We, Rush Football, take a look…

Kevin de Bruyne

The Belgian has been in scintillating form this season. He has featured in all 21 Premier League games scoring six and assisting nine as Manchester City remain unbeaten, winning all but two games. The technically gifted 26-year-old has had 2,037 touches of the ball this season with only teammate Nicolás Otamendi having more. His vision and cutting edge passing ability has been unmatched and he is at the forefront of Pep Guardiola’s footballing philosophy.

Mohamed Salah

After struggling to make an impact during his time at Chelsea, there was lengthy debate over whether Mohamed Salah would shine at Liverpool. However, any doubts regarding his ability were quickly quashed as the Egyptian has been firing on all cylinders since his arrival. He has been directly involved in more goals than any other player in the Premier League, having had involvement in 22 of Liverpool’s 48 goals. Only Tottenham’s Harry Kane has scored more Premier League goals this campaign, the England international has scored 18 compared to Salah’s 17 as the two remain in tight contention for the Golden Boot award.

David de Gea

Spain international David de Gea has been unbeatable at times in the Manchester United goal. Despite the Red Devils sitting in 3rd, de Gea has made the second most saves in the Premier League this season (73). In the 3-1 win over Arsenal in early December, the talented goalkeeper equalled the Premier League record of 14 for the most saves in a game, sharing the record with Tim Krul and Vito Mannone. The former Atlético Madrid goalkeeper has also kept the joint most clean sheets this season, keeping a clean sheet in eleven of his 21 Premier League appearances.

Harry Kane

Englishman Harry Kane is in phenomenal form once again. The 24-year-old won last season’s Premier League Golden Boot award after scoring 29 goals and is on course to win it again, already notching 18 this campaign. His most impressive attribute is his ability to score with both feet, having scored seven with his right and eight with his left. In recent weeks, there has been growing speculation over his future and Tottenham will need to do their utmost to keep their prized asset.

Nicolás Otamendi

Former Porto and Valencia defender Nicolás Otamendi has been in fine form this season. He has featured in 20 of Manchester City’s 21 games, at the heart of a backline which has been breached on just twelve occasions. The Argentinian has also had more touches of the ball this season than any other Premier League player and it’s his composure on the ball which allows Manchester City to play out from the back.
