The League One promotion race is very tight right now and it looks down to Barnsley, Sunderland and Portsmouth as to who will finish behind Luton.
Barnsley hold second place right now, but it’s Sunderland with fate in their hands with the amount of games that they have in hand over the other sides around them.
That’s come via their run to the EFL Trophy final, of course, which they lost to Portsmouth at the weekend.
They’ll need to bounce back from that as soon as possible, then, and it seems as though Aiden McGeady is ready to ensure that happens with a fired up message.
Speaking after the final, he had this to say:
“Portsmouth won the cup, fair play to them.
“But now we have to kick on for the last nine games of the season and get ourselves first or second.”
McGeady has been excellent this season and is in contention for the League One Player of the Year gong at the EFL Awards this weekend.
Whether or not he wins it remains to be seen, of course, but he’s bound to want promotion more than anything else.
