As quoted by the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed an early injury headache that he is going to have to deal with in pre-season.

The Reds’ manager got back to work last week with some of his players and though most of the squad is still resting after international duties, training has begun.

For Xherdan Shaqiri, though, a change of plan is in order for his pre-season as he has got a calf tear that he needs to recover from.

Klopp revealed:

“Shaq is still injured from the national team and it will take a while until he is in again.

“He has a tear in his calf, so he will not be involved for a while.”

Shaqiri proved an impact substitution last season more than a first-team regular but Klopp clearly feels as though he wants him around for next season too.

He will not be heading on the club’s pre-season tour of the US, though, and will instead embark on his own rehab period before the big kick-off in August.

The Swiss international will hope to knuckle down, then, ahead of what will be a big campaign for the Reds.
