According to the Sun, Barcelona are in negotiations with Mesut Özil’s agent over a potential January move. The Catalan club have turned their attention to the Arsenal man after becoming increasingly frustrated at the lack of development in their pursuit of Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho. The German international’s contract expires in July 2018 and therefore he would be allowed to discuss personal terms with Barcelona ahead of a summer move. However, Arsène Wenger will reportedly accept a bid of in the region of £20 million for the wantaway, with a number of clubs ready to move in.

Barcelona are keen to get their transfer business done early after missing out on Coutinho in the last transfer window and Özil is their number one priority. The German has scored 24 goals and assisted 45 in his 126 appearances for the Gunners and the 29-year-old is seen as the ideal replacement for the aging Andrés Iniesta.
