West Brom manager Slaven Bilic has said now is not the time to think about a new contract with his current deal ending next summer.

The Albion have had it tough this season and perhaps always expected that to be the case given their promotion from the Sky Bet Championship last year.

Indeed, they’re in the relegation scrap as things stand and, at the moment, it appears there’s no rush to get a new deal from either club or manager to get a new deal thrashed out.

Quoted by Sky Sports, Bilic explained:

“I was happy with the situation and we said we were going to concentrate on the season. I’m not pushing, it wouldn’t change anything if I had one, two three or four years to go.

“We knew that from the start of the season as we spoke about it briefly before.

“I knew about it since last year. I didn’t want to force any talks then, not to mention now.”

Rush Football’s take

It’s probably a stance that makes sense, as you’d imagine Bilic staying at Albion largely depends on them remaining in the Premier League this season.

The Baggies have had it tough so far this year and will want to show signs of improvement quickly with the likes of Fulham and Burnley beginning to buck up their ideas.

Certainly, you can’t imagine Albion will be getting Bilic on a new long-term deal at the moment as it simply would not make sense if they end up feeling he’s not the right man, should they get relegated this year.
