As quoted by the Daily Mail, Chelsea star Alvaro Morata has revealed why his form has tailed off in the second half of this season.

The Blues snapped up the Spanish forward last summer as they looked to replace Diego Costa who eventually joined Atletico Madrid later on.

Morata started well, too, but his first season of English football will be overall looked back on as mixed bag.

Indeed, around Christmas time he started to slump and has not looked quite the same since but he has explained why – and it makes sense.

He said:

“Everything was good until I had the problems with my back.

“I played with a lot of pain and it probably would have been better if I’d stopped. But I wanted to play with my team-mates, for the club and the fans. Now it’s in the past.”

Clearly, Morata played on through the pain when it would have been wise to stop. That must have had an impact on his confidence to really get amongst it and so his form dropped off accordingly.

With that said, then, after a summer’s rest – though he could go to the World Cup – he should be ready to fire again in 2018/19.
