Martin Keown has moved to praise Liverpool centre-half pairing Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk for the partnership they have at the heart of the Reds’ defence.

The Anfield side got back to their title challenge with a win at the weekend as they beat Norwich City 1-0 at Carrow Road.

Sadio Mane proved the difference as he came off of the bench but the Yellows scared the Reds at times and could have pulled off a shock.

Even so, it was another clean sheet chalked up for Gomez and van Dijk and Keown feels that the way they move about the pitch is what makes them so good at the moment.

Quoted by the Daily Mail, the multiple title winner with Arsenal said:

“Dutchman Van Dijk is 28 while England’s Gomez is 22 — and their talents are very similar.

“Their pace is frightening and they ooze class in the way they travel round the pitch.”

They are a great partnership and fans will hope there’s plenty of years left in it with both at good ages to have a long spell at the top of the game.
