Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink earned his first win since his return to Burton Albion as manager at the weekend as the Brewers edged out Gillingham 1-0 away from home.

The Brewers have certainly had it tough this season with issues in defence costing them results and they currently lie bottom of League One.

Hasselbaink has returned to try and help them out of a hole, then, and has now snapped their losing streak with a narrow victory in Kent, with a clean sheet recorded to boot.

And, that said, Sam Parkin told EFL on Quest on Saturday night that goalkeeper Ben Garratt deserves a lot of the credit for earning the Brewers their third league win of the season.

He said:

“Ben Garratt was outstanding and he’s been battling with O’Hara with the jersey, his second big save from Akinde wins Burton the three points, point-blank range, good contact from the centre-forward, and he does really well to keep it out”

Rush Football’s take

It was certainly a welcome tonic for the Brewers to get a clean sheet after their goals against column took a hammering in recent weeks.

14 goals were shipped in the three league games prior to the trip to Gillingham so seeing a shutout recorded and getting three points will do them the world of good.

There are goals in this Burton team – they have more as a collective in the league than any of the sides above them up to Oxford in 12th – and so if they can tighten up once more they can still turn this season around.
