Danny Cowley was impressed with Doncaster Rovers at the weekend as they beat Swindon Town 2-1 despite the recent exits of Ben Whiteman and Josh Sims.
The League One side will feel as though they can challenge for the play-offs this season for sure under Darren Moore but they have been dealt a bit of a sizeable blow with the duo leaving.
Whiteman, in particular, will be missed given the goals and assists he brought to the side but he has moved to Preston North End for decent money and will be looking to now kick on in the Championship.
Doncaster, too, cannot dwell on things and they showed little signs of doing so at the weekend as they recorded three points against the Robins.
Indeed, former Lincoln boss Cowley was impressed with what he saw, telling EFL on Quest on Saturday evening:
“It’s a fantastic result considering they’d have been really disappointed to lose Ben Whiteman who was arguably the best midfielder in the league and Josh Sims going back to Southampton.
“So, to get over that disappointment and put together a performance like this they’ll be really pleased about. Darren Moore has done a fantastic job there.”
Rush Football’s take
Fejiri Okenabirhie bagged a brace for Rovers at the weekend and he and his team-mates will need to keep doing that to make up for the exits of Whiteman and Sims.
The win takes them up to fourth in the league table and they’ll certainly think that they have the quality to remain in the mix this season.
