Everton’s bid for the FA Cup begins this weekend at home to Rotherham United and Blues fans will hope it’s a competition they can go on a run in.
The Toffees are desperate to end their major trophy drought as soon as possible now and it looks as though they are in the best shape that they have been in to do so for a while.
In Carlo Ancelotti, the Blues have a manager now well at home at the club, having put together a squad with his own signings, and well-versed in winning domestic cup competitions wherever he has been.
Of course, fighting at the sharp end of the league table cannot be jeopardised, particularly this season given how close it is, but the Blues have the squad to juggle a cup run and remain near the summit.
This weekend, they face a Rotherham United side struggling at the bottom of the Championship. Ancelotti will likely make changes, but they should have enough to see off the Millers who have other battles to think about.
Their League Cup run earlier this season should have given the Blues a real increased desire to get a trophy won this campaign, and the FA Cup presents a golden opportunity to do so.
