It was a good weekend for Arsenal in the end, and that was without even playing.

The Gunners are going for the top four this season in the Premier League and have Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United for company.

And, whilst United and Spurs also didn’t play in the league, Chelsea lost to Everton so the Gunners haven’t really lost any ground at all.

Something they have missed out on, though, is the services of Monchi – a widely respected Sporting Director that made his name for Sevilla.

Indeed, his ability to identify signings is well-known and he has left Roma to move back to the Spanish side – snubbing Arsenal in the process.

He said via Sky Sports that despite the Gunners’ interest, a move back to the Spanish outfit was just too tempting to be able to turn down.

He revealed:

“It [Arsenal] has been the club that has shown the most interest in me but, in the end, I evaluated all of the offers I had on the table and I chose the one that convinced me most.”

A blow for the Gunners, then, as they look to fill the Head of Recruitment role sooner rather than later.
