Jarrod Bowen is the first English player to bag a goal on his first start for the Hammers in the Premier League since Kevin Nolan back in 2012. But what did West Ham fans make of his performance?
Bowen joined the Hammers in the January transfer window and has quickly found his form. Today marked his fourth Premier League appearance in claret and blue, but importantly, his first start.
David Moyes put his trust in the new signing and the English forward did not disappoint. Bowen looked right at home in the London Stadium and found the back of the net only 15 minutes into the match.
West Ham fans were happy with their convincing 3-1 victory against Southampton, and highlighted Bowen as a standout performer:
Goes without saying, but incredible goal from Bowen on his first full start. SMART.

Some fans hit back at Bowen’s critics who claimed he wasn’t ready for the top flight:
If Jarod Bowen isn’t ready for the Premier League, I can’t wait to see him when he is.
Brilliantly taken goal.

And some got a bit too carried away…
Jared Bowen is the best striker West Ham have ever had in their entire history and we are going to win the Prem next season and he’s going to score 52 league goals
