Fans were left stunned when Sam Allardyce stepped down as Palace manager just a couple of weeks after the season ended. As a result, the Eagles have been waiting for the appointment of a new boss ever since, but now that wait has come to an end.

Frank de Boer, the former Netherlands manager, has taken charge of Crystal Palace.

The Dutchman was supposedly Steve Parish’s (the club chairman) first choice and is certainly experienced, de Boer was the manager of Ajax from 2010 to 2016 and helped them the win the Eredivisie in four successive seasons, only missing out on a fifth on the final day of the season to PSV. However, since then he has taken charge of Inter Milan, but was fired after only 85 days. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how the Dutchman copes in the Premier League.

The Eagles 2016-17 season started poorly, with Alan Pardew in charge they were struggling week after week. Something had to change, and that change happened just before Christmas, in the shape of Sam Allardyce. Unfortunately for Palace fans, Big Sam failed to get the team firing immediately and they slipped deeper towards the relegation zone. However, things began to click just in time and Allardyce guided the Eagles to impressive victories over Liverpool, Arsenal and even the eventual champions, Chelsea. Signings such as Mamadou Sakho and Christian Benteke, along with Palace regulars such as Wilfried Zaha gave incredible performances that helped the Eagles finish 14th and survive to see another season in the Premier League.

Let us know if you think Frank de Boer is the right man for the job!
