Sunderland boss Phil Parkinson has offered an injury update on young Black Cats man Elliot Embleton with him still recovering from a thigh problem.

The League One side have started the season in pretty decent shape having won two and drawn two from their opening four games in the third tier.

Really, they should have beaten Charlton, too, but could only draw 0-0 at The Valley and they’ll be looking to kick on in the weeks ahead.

Embleton isn’t going to be playing for the first-team just yet, though, with kid gloves evidently being adopted by the club in this situation.

Parkinson said, as quoted by the Sunderland Echo:

“With Elliot we’re just going to take it very slowly with him.

“We need to make sure he’s had enough training time and enough game time at U23 level.

“It’s frustrating for him because he had a really good pre-season, and he will make a big contribution this season, I’m sure of that.

“But he’s just not quite ready yet.”

A bit of a frustrating update for the youngster, then, who will be eager to get playing as soon as he can.

He picked up the knock in pre-season and has been out since, though once he is back he should be challenging for a place in the first-team for sure.
