Harry Kane netted his 99th Premier League goal against Southampton and he has shown no signs of stopping. Over the past few seasons he has grown into one of the world’s most lethal strikers.
He looks on course to catch Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney in the Premier League and the England goal tally. Could he be Gareth Southgate’s the key to World Cup glory in the summer?
Critics still brand the Englishman as a one season wonder but it is difficult to argue with his goal tally over the past four seasons. He has turned Tottenham into top 4 contenders during that time scoring goals in any way he can.
He has all of the right traits to his game. Holding up the ball, heading and thunderous shots he can do them all to great effect. Something that the world’s goalkeepers have had to learn the hard way.
He has already reached 21 goals this season in just 23 appearances making him the top scorer above Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah. Injury free he should be the first name on the team-sheet for both England and Spurs.
Kane has scored over 20 goals in each of the last seasons cementing his place as one of the world’s best goal scorers. Up there with the likes of Luis Suarez and Robert Lewdowski who have been notching goals for seasons. He will be looking to continue adding to his tally in the Champions League also, with Tottenham’s next test against Italian giants Juventus.
His excellent England form over the past season has been rewarded. The FA have awarded Kane with Men’s player of the year. The previous winners including Adam Lallana and the man he is chasing Rooney.
The goal scoring record for both the Three Lions and the Premier League has to be in the 24-year-olds sights. He needs a total of 161 goals to catch Shearer and 41 to catch Rooney. It may sound a lot now but at the rate he has been grabbing goals, he will be there in no time.
The only thing stopping the centre forward is injury and interest from the world’s biggest clubs. His goals have alerted the world’s best with huge transfer fees being rumoured to be in the works at the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United.
None of this has distracted him as he continues to find the back of the net on multiple occasions. Southgate will be hoping that he will be able to continue his great form into the World Cup in Russia.
Could he be the difference between England crashing out early and going deep into the tournament?
Personally, I believe Kane along with the likes of Raheem Sterling, Jesse Lingard and Jamie Vardy could give the Three Lions a great chance of going to the latter stages of the tournament.
The supply given be these in form players may make a huge difference for Kane in the summer.
One thing is for sure no matter where he applies his trade over the next couple of seasons, whether that be Spurs or another team, he will not have trouble finding the net.
