Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho admitted there were certain aspects he was not pleased with as his side made the League Cup final on Tuesday.
The Lilywhites are bidding for their first major trophy win in 12 years and have a shot at winning it with them set to face one of the Manchester clubs at Wembley in April.
Indeed, a 2-0 scoreline was enough to see off Championship side Brentford but Jose Mourinho admitted that certain facets of the team’s performance could have been better.
Quoted by Goal, he said:
“But I’m not happy. I think we have to play better. Sometimes bad decisions, sometimes technical mistakes. Many times recovering the ball and not being vertical in playing backwards.
“I think we have to do better but great respect for the opponent, for the game, for the responsibility, for the ambition. But job done, we are in the final.”
Rush Football’s take
This is perhaps classic Mourinho.
His team have made a final but he is always wanting better and the Spurs players will be eager to show that they can do better by winning the competition in April.
It’s a trophy Mourinho has regularly targeted and won, particularly when arriving at a club, early on and he has another chance to repeat the feat for Tottenham.
It’s clear he wants to get his side used to winning silverware and this is their first chance to do so this season, it just remains to be seen whether they’ll be facing Manchester United or Manchester City.
