Everton fans must be pretty sick to the back teeth of this Romelu Lukaku saga but they’ll surely be very pleased with their manager’s response.

The Toffees have seen the Belgian seem ready to sign and then decide against it – with him having a pop at the club’s lack of ambition.

Ronald Koeman, though, has refuted such talk, as he spoke ahead of the Toffees’ game with Hull this weekend.

The Dutchman said (via The Express)

“First of all the deal wasn’t agreed. 99.9 per cent is not 100 per cent and they are still trying to get the contract over the line.

“And that’s what I know from the board of the club.

“Of course I am not happy about that interview [with the Daily Mail] because if Everton is not a club with a lot of ambition then I wouldn’t be the manager.”

So, for Koeman at least, the club do have ambition and it appears a deal for the striker could still be worked out even now.

It’s good to see from the Everton boss, too, as he at least seems to have bought into his current club’s ethos – though Southampton fans might have something to say about that…
