Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie is suggesting that Steve Bruce is in the running for the vacant Newcastle United managerial job.

The Magpies have been looking for a new boss for almost two weeks now as it was confirmed towards the end of June that Rafa Benitez would be leaving the club.

The Spanish boss has moved to China for big money and the men from Tyneside now need to get a new manager in before too long.

Bruce could be that man, then, with him currently at Sheffield Wednesday after doing a decent job at Hillsborough since arriving in February.

He has plenty of managerial experience in the Premier League, too, though with one of those sides being Sunderland – the Magpies’ arch-rivals.

Whether that comes into their thinking – if they even make a move – remains to be seen, though.

One thing is for sure, though, and that is that the club needs to get a new manager sorted asap.
