The Premier League has now reached the mid-way stage this season and whilst we wait for it to kick-on into the Boxing Day schedule, we’ve been thinking about the Team of the Year so far.

Of course, the side that has taken the plaudits most of all this campaign is Manchester City, and rightly so.

The Citizens are flying along at the moment, playing some of the best football in Europe, and looking like the kind of side that could win a serious number of trophies this season.

In their wake, the rest of the ‘big six’ has had to deal with seeing their title hopes fade whilst also being joined by Burnley up to this point in terms of the top four race.

City have a fair amount of players in our Team of the Year so far, then, but who else makes it? Take a look below…

GK: David de Gea

The best goalkeeper in the world, arguably, de Gea has been the main man in between the sticks for United once more.

He’s won them points by himself with his displays and rightly gets into this side.

CB: James Tarkowski

The centre-half has been superb, up to his clash with Glen Murray last weekend, and could be on to a ‘big move’ in the future.

Burnley will want him back from suspension asap.

CB: Nicolas Otamendi

Looks the player City thought they’d signed from Valencia.

Is still a bit rash but has improved and is a threat offensively too as City’s other defenders struggle with injury.

CB: Phil Jones

Another who has greatly improved.

Jones has benefited from Jose Mouriho’s tactics this season and looks a top CB now. Should be on the plane with England to the World Cup.

RM: Raheem Sterling

Another who will go to Russia, Sterling has been superb this season.

He times his runs well to score goals and has silenced a fair few critics with some big goals late on in matches.

CM: Kevin De Bruyne

The best there’s been this season? The Belgian is certainly up there.

Goals, assists, work-rate, the Belgian international has it all and will be one to watch in 2018 and beyond for sure.

CM: David Silva

Silva has been just as good.

He constructs the most brilliant City attacks with his vision and never goes missing in games. A real credit to the way football should be played.

LM: Leroy Sane

Sane is now showing us what his potential is all about.

He’s been lethal down the left for City and still has so many more years to go in his career. It’s going to be frightening watching him develop.

RF: Mo Salah

The Egyptian has been a revelation.

Going forward, Liverpool are one of the few sides to get close to City and Salah has been a big part of that. If a City player doesn’t win an individual award this year Salah will be the reason more than likely.

LF: Philippe Coutinho

Coutinho has shaken off all the rumours about him with another good season so far.

A big game player, goals and assists have been abundant this year for him. Barca are bound to still be interested.

ST: Harry Kane

Goals, goals, goals, you know what you’re getting with Kane now and his hat-trick yesterday underlined that.

He’s a complete forward and the best there has been so far in the league this season.
