According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool could look to offer Virgil van Dijk fresh contract terms in the summer that would see him become the world’s best-paid defender.
The Reds are looking for their first top flight title in 30 years this season and are on course to do so.
The Dutch defender, too, has been pivotal in making them challengers for the title over the last few seasons and, for many, he is the best centre-half in the game right now.
And, by the sounds of things, the Reds want his pay to reflect that with them weighing up offering him revised terms in the off-season.
As per the report, discussions have not yet been held and so the deal is very much in the wings more than anything, but you get the feeling that it would make sense for the Reds to try and tie him down with him now in his peak as a defender.
