Gary O’Neil has arrived at Liverpool as the club’s new u23 assistant coach, working under manager Barry Lewtas, the Reds have confirmed on their official website.

The Anfield club are looking to defend their Premier League title in 2020/21, whilst further down they will be continuing to look to bring through top young players.

The likes of Neco Williams and Curtis Jones have progressed from the academy and into first-team involvement, and O’Neil will be eager to play his part in that.

Once a Premier League player for the likes of Portsmouth and West Ham, O’Neil has plenty of experience to call upon when advising the youngsters on what it takes to get to the very top of the game.

Indeed, Liverpool will be hoping he can pass on some knowledge, too, as they look for more young players to break into their squad and challenge for a spot in the first-team.
