Liverpool will give Joel Matip every opportunity to prove his fitness ahead of the Reds’ clash with Manchester United this weekend.

The Premier League giants meet at Anfield on Sunday afternoon with the Reds the current champions and the Red Devils the current league leaders.

A win for the home side can take them back to top spot, however, but it remains to be seen what their defence is going to look like.

As per the Liverpool Echo, though, the Reds are going to wait for as long as possible with Joel Matip and hope that he can prove he is fit enough.

Rush Football’s take

Matip had to come off with an adductor issue in the game against West Brom in late December and has been missing since.

Certainly, Fabinho has done a good job all season filling in in the middle of defence whilst one of Rhys Williams or Nat Phillips will be looked to if Matip is not fit.

He is by far their best defender of the players potentially available for this weekend, though, and so it’s only natural the Reds are trying their very best with him.
