Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk is on track in terms of his recovery from knee surgery, Reds reporter James Pearce has confirmed.

The Reds take on Ajax tomorrow evening in the Champions League as they look to get themselves through to the knockout stages – needing just a point to do so.

Jurgen Klopp was speaking to the press prior to the game, then, and fielded several questions over the injury status of many of his players.

Among them, Van Dijk, with the German initially admitting that the Dutchman’s knee was not looking good.

Pearce, though, has allayed any fears about such comments with it purely the way Klopp wording it being the issue, rather than there being an actual problem with the knee:

Rush Football’s take

Pearce makes a good point, there are bound to be still scars and likely scabbing around the wound without wanting to get too graphic.

Van Dijk had surgery on a serious knee injury that is likely to keep him out for the season – it would be a big surprise, therefore, if it was looking fine already.

Of course, Reds fans would love that to happen but are already prepared to not see the Dutchman for a few months yet and they’ll be glad Pearce has cleared things up after Klopp’s earlier comments.

Van Dijk is on track for his recovery, then, and will be working hard to keep on schedule.
