Quoted by the Liverpool Echo, Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has talked up the title race that is set to ensue between the Citizens and Liverpool.

The Reds and City went toe to toe for the duration of the Premier League campaign last season with the lead in the league swaying between the two sides.

Eventually, it was City that came out on top, though, by the finest of margins as their 98 points bettered Liverpool’s 97.

The new season currently has the Reds in front by two points at this early stage, meanwhile, and it is clear that it could well be another big fight between two excellent teams.

Judging by these comments, too, Gundogan is expecting exactly that:

“That’s good for the league, maybe also good for us but also good for Liverpool that we are there so it’s going to be a fight.”

The two don’t face each other until November and so by that point we should have a real sense of how the title race is going to look.

One thing is for sure, though, both sides are going to be entertaining again this season.
