Newcastle United are to appeal to the Premier League for a postponement of their game with Aston Villa as the club is hit by several covid cases.
The Magpies have had to shut their training ground this week and have ordered their players to stay away in a bid to stop the virus spreading through the playing squad.
Indeed, it’s Premier League guidelines that say 14 playing members would need to be ruled out normally for postponement to be considered, though there is no minimum number established when it comes to the virus.
And, according to Luke Edwards of the Telegraph, the Magpies are going to head down that route:

Rush Football’s take
It’s a problem unique to this football season, though so far we have been lucky to avoid any massive issues in the Premier League up until now.
Of course, Newcastle will have wanted to try and fulfil the fixture as they don’t need further pile-ups of matches later in the year, and Villa would no doubt like to play this Friday as well.
It’s a developing story at the moment, though, and it looks likely we could see this game cancelled.
