Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin is back on Tyneside as he works his way back to fitness after suffering from long-covid.

The winger has been one of the standout players for Newcastle in the recent past but when the club was hit by an outbreak towards the end of 2020, it appeared as though he’d been hit harder than most.

Indeed, we haven’t seen him in black and white since November and Magpies fans will be hoping it’s not long now until he does return.

As per the Daily Mail, he’s back in the north-east after spending time in France trying to recover and that should be seen as a positive sign that he is getting there at last.

Rush Football’s take

Newcastle have been one of the clubs that have had to postpone games thanks to the virus this season and Steve Bruce revealed in December that some of his players were suffering long-term effects.

Indeed, Saint-Maximin was one of them and the manager will be delighted to see him back in the north-east after a while away.

They won’t rush him, given the rather unprecedented nature of the situation but the sooner he is back the better for them.

You’d think, though, it’ll take a little time to get back to some kind of football fitness.
