Celtic will not be appointing Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane to take over from Neil Lennon as things stand, according to a report from the Daily Record.

The former Celtic midfielder finds himself under big pressure at the moment with form both domestically and in Europe far from good enough.

Indeed, speculation is rife that he could be replaced soon but O’Neill and Keane are unlikely to replace him, with the Record saying that such rumours are ‘wide of the mark.’

One thing is for sure, though, and that is that Lennon – if form does not improve very soon indeed – will likely be out of the job as fans are seriously beginning to turn on him.

Rush Football’s take

You can see where the link has obviously come from.

Martin O’Neill was at the helm during one of Celtic’s most successful periods as they enjoyed domestic dominance and also regular forays into European competition.

Roy Keane, meanwhile, spent time there as a player towards the end of his career and the two obviously have a good working relationship from their spell in charge of the Republic of Ireland.

However, it appears these reports are wide of the mark and you do wonder whether Celtic should go for a new face in the dugout this time, rather than trying the old names again.
