Pochettino comments on Jose Mourinho as he reflects on Spurs exit

Mauricio Pochettino has said that he has no hard feelings over his removal from Tottenham, nearly exactly a year ago, and that he hopes Jose Mourinho and Spurs can enjoy success together.

The Argentinian manager was a guest on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football yesterday evening as he presided over Leeds United’s defeat to Leicester City as well as fielding questions, naturally, about his spell at Tottenham and how it came to an end.

Jose Mourinho, of course, replaced him as Spurs sought to change their form last season and the Portuguese is currently doing a decent job in north London, with them not far off of Liverpool in top spot.

Sour grapes from Pochettino, then? Not at all, as he revealed the respect he has for Mourinho and also how he accepted the decision to be sacked at the time in 2019/20.

He said:

“I understand football very well. I’m not complaining about the decision of the club, of Daniel, the only thing I can do is support, because we still have a very good relationship.

“The man who replaced me is a good friend, and a manager that treated me well when I was at Espanyol and he was in Real Madrid.

“I love Tottenham, and I know Jose, so I want the best for him. We missed winning a title, that is what we missed to put the cherry on top of the cake.”

Spurs fans obviously want to see a title with Mourinho, and maybe this season they will be challenging.
