Route to Russia:
Mexico made it look easy, finishing top of the table in the CONCACAF fifth and final round. They only lost one game, the final match against Honduras, after they had already qualified. Tougher tests will lie ahead though.
How far can they get:
Mexico will want to get out their group and will be fighting for second place with Korea Republic and Sweden. They have reached the last 16 at the last six tournaments but never progressed further and I think this will be the seventh tournament.
Juan Carlos Osorio. As a player, Osorio had to retire at 26 due to injury. However, at 54 he is still going strong as a manager. Manchester City fans will remember him as he was assistant between 2001-04. He has experienced highs and lows as Mexico manager, leading them on a 16 game unbeaten run before losing in the quarter-finals of the Copa America to Chile in a spectacular 7-0 defeat.
One to Watch:
Javier Hernández. He didn’t have the best season at West Ham, but the former Manchester United and Real Madrid man is Mexico’s top scorer. He will be entering his third World Cup for Mexico and has scored in the last two. Mexico will be hoping he’s back to his goal poaching best.
