Route to Russia:

Uruguay qualified from possibly the toughest qualification process and they did it with relative ease. They did qualify on the final round of games but were always under less pressure than Columbia, Argentina and Peru.

How far will they get:

Uruguay have fared quite well at recent World Cups. They have also been placed in probably the easiest group of the tournament, alongside the host nation. Uruguay will top the group but will suffer when they face sterner tests and will exit in the quarter-finals.

Manager:

Óscar Tabárez. He holds the record for most games managing one single international team. In total, he has coached Uruguay for a total of 192 games, spread over two stints.

One to watch:

Luis Suarez. The Barcelona man is still Uruguay’s talisman and they will need him at his best. Uruguay will be hoping he is on his best behaviour though as eight years ago he punched the ball off the line and four years ago he took a chunk out of someone else’s shoulder.
