Route to Russia:
The Three Lions had a relatively easy route to the finals. They finished top of their qualifying group, eight points ahead of Slovakia. Losing none and drawing two of their ten games. However, they’ve been here before and can only hope to perform better in the finals this time.
How far can they get:
Every four years English fans ask this question and every four years they are disappointed. England have a young inexperienced squad but this has enabled them to go to World Cup with less expectation. That being said Harry Kane has claimed that England will win the World Cup, so England WILL be triumphant in Russia!
Gareth Southgate. No one would have guessed that he would be the manager when he declined the offer and let Sam Allardyce take the reigns. When the opportunity arose again six weeks later though, he jumped at the chance. England haven’t looked back, but hopefully he has someone else coaching them on penalties.
One to Watch:
Harry Kane. He’s the first Englishman to score 30 goals in a league since Alan Shearer. Southgate has just named him captain and England will be relying on his goal scoring prowess if they want to go far.
