There’s just a handful of games to go in the Premier League now so who’s got the mettle to perform?
After Sunderland were the first side to get relegated last weekend we’ve begun to complete the jigsaw of this season and the next few pieces may well be in place come around 10pm on Monday night.
Between then and now, though, we’ve got some games to discuss and so here’s our preview for the weekend…
West Ham v Tottenham
Spurs have another London derby to contend with this evening and it’s certainly set to be held in a vociferous atmosphere. West Ham would like nothing more than to ruin Spurs’ title run and so the Lilywhites need to perform.
Manchester City v Crystal Palace
This is the lunch time game on Saturday and it should have been one Palace could relax in. Instead, though, they need to be at it once more and aim to try and cause a surprise against a City side who are still chasing the top four.
Bournemouth v Stoke
Bournemouth are safe in the Premier League now and will aim to celebrate against a Stoke side that have slumped as per usual. This is a fine example of a dead-rubber at this point in the season.
Burnley v West Brom
Burnley secured their relative safety last time out against Palace and so this is another game where little is riding on it. West Brom have joined Stoke on the beach already and so a home win could be likely.
Hull v Sunderland
With the Black Cats down they may actually play with some freedom so this isn’t a slam dunk for Hull. Even so, they are very good at home and will surely be confident of getting another big three points.
Leicester v Watford
The champions will want to finish the season on a high after a year that has been all over the place. Watford, meanwhile, have also had a topsy-turvy campaign and we’re expecting goals in this one.
Swansea v Everton
Everton are safely in the Europa League for next season and do appear to have taken their eye off the ball at the moment. Swansea could profit, then, with them still having plenty to play for.
Liverpool v Southampton
Liverpool know a win here would be massive in terms of the race for the Champions League spots. They got a good win against Watford but Southampton have had their number so far this season and so this will be a big test.
Arsenal v Manchester United
This is a huge game for both sides. Arsenal really look out of the top four race and a loss here will surely seal that for good. United, meanwhile, also need a win and a loss for them could see them finally prioritise the Europa League.
Chelsea v Middlesbrough
Chelsea will take one more huge step towards winning the title with a win against Middlesbrough. Boro are fighting to stay up, of course, but anything else but a Blues win is still highly unlikely.
