Sam Parkin felt Lincoln City gave Peterborough United too much respect on Saturday afternoon as the League One promotion challengers drew 1-1 at Sincil Bank.

The Imps are currently top of the league in the third tier and could have made a real statement by beating the Posh, who are currently sat in fifth.

However, it was the away side who took an early lead with a Timothy Eyoma own goal putting them in front.

After half-time, the Imps would level through Antony Scully and had a numerical advantage for the last portion of the game after Nathan Thomspon was sent off for the away side.

Level it finished, though, and Parkin felt as though a quick start for the Posh and too much respect shown by the hosts was what cost Michael Appleton’s men.

Speaking on EFL on Quest, he explained:

“Peterborough were much quicker out of the blocks, I thought that Lincoln gave them too much respect, with their two wide players holding off a bit and allowed the two outside centre-halves to build for Peterborough.”

Rush Football’s take

Parkin makes a fair enough point and Lincoln might feel as though they could have gone on to win the game given they had an extra man for just over the final 20 minutes of the game.

Even so, they at least avoided giving a promotion-chasing side three points as they bid to keep hold of top spot and the Posh, with two games in hand, are a threat to that.
