We are at the mid-way point of the January transfer window and the rumour mill is in full function with the world’s best being linked to each and every team up and down the country.
Manchester United have been linked to a whole host of different players including the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Malcom and Antoine Griezmann once again. But is there any truth to the rumours?
Jose Mourinho will be looking to boost his squad ahead of the business end of the season as his side look to go deep into the cup competitions and put pressure on their city rivals.
When the transfer window opened on Janurary 1st the Red Devils were linked with Bordeaux wide man Malcom in an attempt to try and free up Anthony Martial or Marcus Rashford on the flanks. Giving Mourinho another option up front when Romelu Lukaku is injured. This rumour seems to have died down in recent weeks as the Brazilian has been linked to Arsenal.
Another wide man which has been linked to United is PSG’s Lucas Moura. He hasn’t had very much game time this season due to the purchases of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. He could serve the same purpose as Malcom.
A rumour which has heated up over the past couple of days is the transfer of Arsenal’s star man Sanchez. The Chilean looked destined to join Manchester City but it looks like he is now more likely to come to the red half of Manchester.
That’s if the rumours in the media are true. The Gunners will be looking to offload the attacker this month with his contract running out in the summer. This transfer will also give Arsene Wenger the funds to complete the signing of Malcom.
Of course, the nonsense rumours also make it to the back pages as well. The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Griezmann and Neymar have all graced the back pages of the newspapers over the past few weeks.
Will Mourinho add to the list of great January signings which have joined the club?
It isn’t just players making the move to Old Trafford, it’s players also making the move out of the club. Out of favour Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Daley Blind both linked with moves away from the club in recent weeks.
Mkhitaryan has had a difficult time at Old Trafford. After a great start to the season he seems to have been pushed out of the squad by the in-form Jesse Lingard. It looks like the manager has lost faith in the former Borrusia Dortmund midfielder. Speculation has grown over the past week with the Armenian going to the Emirates in the place of Sanchez in a swap plus cash deal.
Only time will tell in terms of Mkhitaryan.
Another player who has looked set for an exit is Daley Blind. The versatile defender has had a number of clubs interested in his services. However, Mourinho may have him in his future plans. Speculation has also grown over the Italian Matteo Darmian’s future at the club also.
Clubs have another couple of weeks to complete their signings but will they make or break their season. We will have to wait until May to see how it pans out.
