Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed their intention to appeal the 12-point deduction that they were hit with at the end of July, with it set to come into play for the 2020/21 Championship season.

The 12-point deduction came in response to a charge of financial misconduct where it was alleged the backdating of the sale of Hillsborough was used to circumvent profitability and sustainability laws.

Wednesday have always maintained their innocence, though, and will now get the chance to try and overturn the points ruling by appealing the ruling – with the written reasons behind the deduction getting revealed earlier on today.

This one is set to rumble on a little while yet, then, but it is clear the Owls feel as though they have enough evidence to clear their name rather than just take the 12-point hit and so, that in mind, it makes perfect sense for them to press ahead with their appeal.
