Aston Villa get a change of scenery this weekend from Premier League action as they take on Manchester City in the League Cup final.

City, of course, go into the game as the favourites but the Villans are no strangers to Wembley having won there under a year ago in the Championship play-off final.

They’ll be looking to use that experience to their advantage this weekend, then, and will also be hoping that Jack Grealish has one of his best games for the club with him clearly their best player this season.

The attacking midfielder belongs in the Premier League and if the club does not stay in the top flight past this season, fears will grow that he might well leave in the summer.

Indeed, Dean Smith could not say for certain whether even a League Cup win this weekend would see the player remain at the club, even if they also stay up.

Quoted by the Mirror, he said:

“We have to work hard on Sunday to try and win that trophy. Winning a trophy , well, you can say we have just won one.

“But Jack’s future like all the rest of the players is down to what happens over the next three months. What we can do is assess it then.”

Smith can’t go making promises, of course, but fans would surely hope a trophy win and remaining in the league could keep Grealish about.
