The rise from non-league to Premier League is a path recently trodden by Rickie Lambert, Andre Gray and Jamie Vardy. But who will be the next star to emerge from the lower tiers of the football pyramid? Rush Football take a look at three non-league footballers that have started the season in style.
Adam Cornell – Bracknell Town FC – @adam_cornell
It may only be November, but Bracknell Town FC of UHLSPORT Hellenic League Premier don’t mess around. They have already scored a staggering 75 goals this campaign in just 22 games with Adam Cornell, their talented striker, scoring 21 times as well as providing many assists for teammates as Bracknell push for promotion. What is even more remarkable is during the 2016/17 campaign Cornell and his strike partner Terence Bohane scored 91 goals between them, with Bracknell scoring 176 goals in all competitions. The Robins are currently in the midst of an intense battle for promotion, with four points separating the top four sides. At present they sit 2nd in the league, just one point behind league leaders Highworth Town.
Simeon Cobourne – Heather St Johns FC – @SimRno
Simeon Cobourne of Heather St Johns FC is currently the Total Motion Midland Football League division one leading scorer. The Saints striker has scored 23 times this season, including four goals after coming on as a substitute in a Leicestershire Senior Cup game in October. What’s even more impressive is Cobourne has scored just under half of Heather St Johns league goals, having scored 15 of their 36 goals. With his consistent goal scoring form turning heads, we expect to see him playing at a higher level sooner rather than later.
Sam Holmes – Ampthill Town FC – @SamHolmes31
Currently playing for Ampthill Town FC in the Spartan South Midlands Football League division one, nine leagues below the Premier League, Sam Holmes goal scoring record is formidable to say the least. Despite making just the 15 appearances so far this campaign, the non-league hotshot has already struck the net 19 times including seven goals in just two FA Vase fixtures. The Amps currently sit in 6th position and should they keeping leading goal scorer Holmes fit, they will have no problem in the promotion hunt.
