Gareth Bale’s lack of involvement at Spurs this season has surprised a number of Lilywhites players, according to a report from ESPN.
The Welsh star signed on loan at the start of the season, completing a long-awaited and talked about return to the club where he really started to make his name.
He was injured to start with but in the time since recovering we’ve seen him used largely as a bit-part player which, for a footballer of his talent and ability, is a bit of a mystery.
Evidently, it is one that some of the players at Spurs are not understanding either with the report claiming that he is impressing them in training but clearly he’s not doing enough for Jose Mourinho.
He was unused against Fulham earlier this week as Tottenham drew at home and that has left many questioning just what is happening with the attacker at the moment.
Rush Football’s take
Bale’s situation at Spurs is baffling.
Many sat up and took note when he arrived as Spurs had the prospect of having him, Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son leading the line, a frightening proposition on paper.
However, whilst the latter two have dovetailed a lot this season, Bale has been on the bench more often than not and used in the Europa League to keep him ticking over.
It’s a strange set of circumstances for a player who is so gifted and is largely mirroring the latter stages of his time at Real Madrid before the loan.
