West Ham endured a tough weekend in the Premier League as they lost to Everton at the London Stadium.

The Hammers and the Toffees are both challenging for a Europa League spot in the Premier League table this season.

You’d have thought, then, that the Hammers would have done more than they did to get the three points against the Blues but, in all honesty, they melted under the pressure.

And, with that in mind, Pablo Zabaleta has said that the mental weakness that is at the club at the moment will cost them dear in the run-in.

He said via talkSPORT:

“I am not happy at all because if you look at the season so far, we have not been consistent enough. We have had three or four bad performances against teams around us.

“There are five teams looking for that seventh position and it is all about one or two points difference between them.

“We have lost so many opportunities to be in that seventh place and it shows the weak mentality that we have probably got and which we need to improve looking forward.”

A rather blunt, scathing assessment of his team, then, and one that his fellow players will want to prove is wrong.

The Hammers have shown some nice flashes at times this season, but the weekend result against a fairly out of sorts Everton will have concerned greatly.

It’s now up to them to respond.
