It really does look like Romelu Lukaku is going to be on the move before too long now after it became clear he was not going to sign a new contract at Everton.

That, of course, did come as a shock after last week seemed to signify that he was going to extend his Goodison Park stay.

Now, though, the race for his signature has surely begun and whilst the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United will be linked there is only one place he should head – Arsenal.

Whilst United have Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Chelsea have Diego Costa as their top world class strikers, Arsenal do not have anyone of that standard.

Indeed, the closest they have to as such is through playing Alexis Sanchez down the middle and whilst that has worked at times, the Chilean is not a centre-forward.

Lukaku, of course, is not world-class yet but he surely will be with the right platform and only at Arsenal is he going to get that.

Why should he play ahead of Costa or Ibrahimovic? He could move to one of those clubs and then be stuck on the bench – he’d almost be better off at Everton.

Certainly, though, he’d start at the Emirates as they themselves look to find that next level.

The Gunners need to rip things up, their playing style doesn’t work, they’re not powerful enough or brutal enough in their attacks.

Lukaku, meanwhile, is both and so, whilst he needs to move there to further his career, they almost need him even more.
